Underlying Database
StressTester™ uses a relational database to store configuration information and performance test results. The software is supplied with an embedded database – Apache Derby – but this is only suitable when evaluating StressTester™.
If you wish to use StressTester™ for performance testing you will need to choose either SQL Server or Oracle as your underlying database. Don't worry if you don't have access to one of these databases; see below for how to download a database for StressTester™ at no cost to your organization.
If you currently have either of these databases installed, you will need to know the name of a new empty database and the username/password of a user with “database owner” privileges for the database, as you will enter these values during the installation process.
You do not need to install the database and the StressTester™ GUI on the same machine. Of course, you will need to know the name of the machine and the port the database is listening on.
If you do not already have one of these database systems, click on one of the options below to download a free-for-non-commercial-usage version:
SQL Server Express
Oracle Express Edition
If you choose to install SQL Server Express, it is recommended that you also install SQL Server Express Management Studio as this makes creating and managing databases very easy. In addition, after installing SQL Server, please follow these special instructions to configure the database system to work correctly with StressTester™.
